Why do I have to work concession?
Concession is part of how we bring money back and a large part of fundraising. By having parents work the concession, we can bring in money by selling food items to make a profit to put back into the budget to keep the cost down as well. Each season there are at least four home games at our field. During these home games the Association is responsible for paying the officials. This can be a cost of $700 - $900 per Saturday. These funds are made through the sale of concession stand items. Without the concession stand sales this cost will need to be incorporated into the registration.
The concession would not be able to run without parents working. The volunteers that run the Association cannot run this on their own; we need the parents’ participation to keep the concession in operation.
Everyone must work concession to do their part in keeping the association going. If all parents work their assigned time no one person should have to work more than their fair share to keep the costs down for everyone.
Why do I have to participate in the fundraiser also?
The purpose of fundraisers are to keep the cost of registration down by allowing the parents to use the fundraiser to bring in monies other than their own.
The Association puts out the effort to do the fundraisers instead of charging the full cost of registration to the parents so they are not burdened with the full price of registration.
Fund-raising brings money back to the association to allow us to buy new equipment, uniforms, trophies, etc. Everyone must participate in Fund-raising to help maintain the funds needed for these things.
How many plays per game will my child get?
Per MYFL rules each child must receive 2 plays, which includes Special Teams. (example: Special Teams-Kick Off and Kick Off Return). At Varina we know how important it is to the children to learn how to play the game and have fun. Per the Varina Football Constitution each child must receive 4 plays including Special Teams and for the Flag team each child must receive 6 plays including special teams.
